Carbondale Recreation is again offering men’s 4-on-4 flag football.

Games will be played Tuesdays at North Face Park and the season will conclude with a league tournament. The cost is $200 per team and players must be 18 and older. Register by Aug. 12. Referees are also needed.

3-on-3 hoops tourney is Sept. 12

Snowmass Village Recreation is hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for players 16 and up on Sept. 12.

Games will be held on outdoor and indoor courts throughout the day. The cost is $150 per team and the field is limited to 20 teams. Players receive tournament T-shirts if registered before Sept. 4.

Roaring Fork High School fall sports practices begin Aug. 17.

Volleyball will practice from 7-9 a.m. and from 5-7 p.m. Soccer will meet from 7-8 a.m. and from 5-7 p.m. Football practice runs from 7-9 a.m. and from 5-7 p.m.

Physicals must be completed prior to taking the field or court for any sport.

Ride the rails by competing in the Carbondale Cup Mountain Madness skateboard competition. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Aug. 22, and the event begins at 10 a.m. at the North Face skate park.

Entry fees are as follows: beginner division, $20; intermediate division, $25; advanced division, $30; sponsored division, $35. The first 30 to sign up will receive a free T-shirt.

The Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association is holding a fundraiser golf tournament at Lakota Canyon Golf Club on Aug. 14. The four-man scramble will get underway with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Hole sponsorships are available, and there are still openings to play in the tourney. There will be long-drive and closest-to-the-hole awards.

The Rifle Creek Senior Tournament tees off Aug. 15-16 at Rifle Creek Golf Course.

The action starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The cost to enter is $110, which includes green fees, carts and prizes. Players must be 50 and older.

Runners and walkers are invited to stretch their legs for literacy Oct. 3 in the Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy. A half marathon (13.1-mile) run and relay race and five-kilometer (3.1-mile) run/walk will take place on the bike path in scenic Glenwood Canyon east of Glenwood Springs.

The half marathon begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10. Buses will take participants from the finish line at the No Name exit of Glenwood Canyon to the race starting points. Relay teams of up to five people are welcome to participate in the half marathon. Team sponsorships by companies, service clubs, etc., are encouraged.

The entry fee is $25 per person in the half marathon, and $50 per team, and the 5K cost is $15 per person. A late fee of $5 per person and $25 per team applies to entries received after Sept. 28.
