Grizzlies blank Eagle ValleyThe Glenwood Springs Grizzlies midget hockey team had little trouble with Eagle Valley Saturday night.Goalie Robert Benjamin earned a shutout, and Jimmy Carter tallied two goals as the Grizzlies downed the Devils 6-0 in the league contest at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.Carter started the scoring in the first period, and teammates Tate Fairbanks and Trevor Kroeger each added a goal for a 3-0 lead after the first.Colin Carrick was the only player to score in the second. Carter and Gray Hussey had third-period goals.
Chris Abshire had two assists.Benjamin finished with nine saves, while his Eagle Valley counterpart, Conner Lantz, made 24 stops.Zebulon Ski and Snowboard Race on tapThe 10th annual Zebulon Ski and Snowboard Race takes place Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Snowmass ski area.Over the past 10 years the event, in memory of former Roaring Fork High School student Zeb Piffer, has raised more than $70,000 in funding for scholarships for local students while spreading the “Don’t Drink and Drive” message.
Competitors are required to sign a contract stating they will never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Each competitor receives a lift ticket, lunch and a chance at prizes.Registration takes place at the Cirque Cafe on the Snowmass Mall starting at 8:30 a.m. with races starting at 10 a.m. at the Spyder Sabbich course.Shirts and hoodies are for sale at Roaring Fork High School, with all proceeds going toward scholarships and prizes. A series of meetings for parents and students going out for a spring sport at Glenwood Springs High School have been scheduled. Dates, locations and time of the meetings are:Boys and girls track – today, 6:30 p.m., GSHS multipurpose room. Girls tennis – Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., DECA room. Girls golf – Wednesday, 7 p.m., tech area. Baseball – Thursday, 6:30 p.m., media center. Girls soccer – Thursday, multipurpose room.Carbondale spring lacrosse meeting set for Feb. 17The Roaring Fork Lacrosse Club will hold an informative presentation and registration session at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Carbondale Town Hall.
