Area Sports Calendar

The Carbondale Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the summer youth baseball and softball leagues. These are for ages 7 and up. The cost for the coach pitch league is $55 plus a $25 uniform deposit, while the cost for the baseball and softball league is $60 plus a $25 uniform deposit. The registration deadline is Friday, May 4.

The Carbondale Recreation Department is accepting registrations for Start Smart Soccer. This introductory soccer program for ages 3-4 will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, May 7-23, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. at Miners Park. The cost is $40 and the registration deadline is Friday, April 27.



Coal Ridge High School will play host to the May 5 New Castle Gladiator Wrestling Tournament.

Age divisions range from prekindergarten to eighth grade. The cost is $15 per wrestler for preregistration, $20 to sign up on the day of the tournament and $25 for each additional bracket. Spectators 4 years and older are $3 apiece.



Four-time Division 1 national college champion and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Cael Sanderson will make a guest appearance and give a clinic from noon to 12:45 p.m. He will also be signing autographs off and on throughout the day and will hand out awards.

Exclusive Athletic Club, at the Ramada Inn in Glenwood Springs, will host the Bench Press Meet on May 19.

Sanctioned by USA Powerlifting, the meet will have four divisions: teen (14-19 years), junior (20-23), open (24-39), master (40 years and up) and special Olympian. Entry forms can be picked up at: 118 W. Sixth St., Suite 60 in Glenwood or by going to http://www.exclusiveathleticsclub.com.
