Basalt girls down Aspen

BASALT ” The upset-minded Aspen girls hung tough with Basalt in the first half until the Class 3A Western Slope League leading Longhorns found their offense Tuesday night.

Lauren Redfern clicked for 22 points and 11 rebounds in Tuesday’s 59-41 win against the Skiers as the Longhorns remained unbeaten in the WSL. With the win, the Longhorns moved to 10-0 in league and 13-2 overall.

Basalt never trailed, but failed to pull away in the first two quarters of play. The ‘Horns ended the first period ahead 20-13, and were only able to extend their lead to nine points at intermission.

In the second half, Basalt got rolling. Outscoring Aspen 13-9 in the third quarter raised the Longhorns’ advantage to 13 at the end of the period. A 16-point outburst in the final eight minutes led to the final score.

Two other Longhorn starters ” Brittney Pollock and Rochelle Moebius ” also finished the game in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Basalt wraps up this week’s action on Friday at Cedaredge.
