Basalt golfer Garrett Exelbert 8th after first day of 3A state tourney play

Basalt High School golfer and Glenwood High student sophomore Garrett Exelbert found himself tied for eighth place in the opening round of the 3A state golf tournament Monday at Spring Valley Golf Course in Elizabeth.

Exelbert shot 74 for the round. Basalt sophomore Alec Claassen shot 83 and sits tied for 53rd, and senior Braden Exelbert, Garrett’s older brother, shot 86 (T67). All three members of the all-district Basalt golf team go to Glenwood Springs High School.
