Basalt Longhorn takes first at Warrior Invite in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION ” Basalt’s Marty Knous had a big day at Tuesday’s Warrior Invitational boys golf tournament at Tiara Rado Golf Course. The Longhorn shot a 1-over-par 72 to sneak away with individual medalist honors while Montezuma-Cortez needed a one-hole playoff to beat Steamboat Springs and come away as the team champs.

Three Garfield County schools ” Coal Ridge, Grand Valley and Roaring Fork ” were on hand for Tuesday’s tourney, hosted by Grand Junction Central High School. Faring best among golfers from those teams was Roaring Fork’s Micah Evonitz, who carded an 83. Coal Ridge’s Craig Spaulding (84) and Grand Valley’s Dylan Walters (85) also turned in sub-90 scores.

Grand Valley is slated to attend tournaments in Montrose the next two days ” tomorrow at Bridges Golf Course and Thursday at Black Canyon Golf Club. Rifle is also scheduled to be at both tourneys.
