Basalt trips Eagle Valley
GYPSUM ” Basalt’s one-two scoring punch of Lauren Redfern and Rochelle Moebius was too much for the host Eagle Valley Devils Tuesday night.
Redfern tossed in a game-high 28 points and Moebius scored 16 in leading the Longhorns to a 53-47 win in a Class 3A girls Western Slope League contest.
The win kept Basalt unbeaten in the WSL, raising their record to 6-0 in league and 9-2 overall.
Eagle Valley, who was tied for second place with idle Roaring Fork prior to Tuesday’s game, fell to 4-2 in league and 5-4 overall.
However, it took a while for Basalt to get rolling.
Eagle Valley, fueled by the hot-shooting Kelsey Shreeve (20 points) took a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 27-21 at intermission.
Down by six at halftime, Basalt took control in the third period when they outscored the Devils, 17-9 to take a one-point lead at the end of the quarter.
Basalt extended the margin in the final eight minutes by scoring 15 points against Eagle Valley’s 11.
The Longhorn boys dropped a 62-48 decision to Eagle Valley in the nightcap. No other information was available at press time.
