Basalt wins GV Tournament at Battlement Mesa GC

Opening up the 2016 regular season with the Grand Valley Tournament at Battlement Mesa Golf Course in Parachute, the Basalt boys golf team, made up of athletes from Glenwood Springs, Roaring Fork and Basalt, won the tournament outright with a score of 238, topping Grand Valley, Aspen, Montezuma, Grand Junction and Grand Junction Central.

For the Longhorns, Holden Kleager shot a team-low of 74 in the one-round tournament to lead the way for Basalt, while his brother, Linc, shot a 79, finishing second on the team.

Finishing behind the Kleager boys was Tanner Korn, who shot an 85 on the day, while Drew Broadhurst (89) and Branden Benzel (93) rounded out the five finishers for Basalt.



Elsewhere in the tournament, Grand Valley’s Tyler Dove’s round of 76 set a new school record for the Cardinals, placing him in a four-way tie at his home tournament with Montezuma’s Chris Rudosky, Grand Junction’s Blake Schneiter and Grand Junction’s Canon Olkowski.

Grand Junction’s Trevor Olkowski won the tournament with a tremendous round of 66.
