Battle for WSL football supremacy is tops this week

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. All eyes will be on football this week, with Glenwood Springs butting heads with Palisade on the Demons’ home turf this Friday night.Why is this game important?For starters, both teams enter with an unblemished Class 3A Western Slope League record. And both are ranked in the top five in Class 3A by RockyPreps, with Glenwood at No. 5 and Palisade at No. 2.A Demon triumph would have Stubler Memorial Field rocking, and the Dakota Stonehouse-led team would no doubt soar to even greater ranking heights.Also big this week, Rifle’s Shawn Cruse is at the Class 4A state golf tournament in Broomfield Monday and Tuesday. Cruse is coming off a Western Regional win in Cortez and looks to make an impression statewide.Here are some more contests worth watching out for as the week progresses:

Football – Palisade at Glenwood, homecoming, 7 p.m.- Battle Mountain at Rifle, homecoming, 7 p.m.- Basalt at Coal Ridge, 7 p.m.- Grand Valley at Paonia, 7 p.m.Volleyball – Gunnison at Roaring Fork, 6 p.m.- Basalt at Coal Ridge, 5:30 p.m.

Boys soccer – Colorado Rocky Mountain School at Coal Ridge, 11 a.m.Cross Country – Glenwood, Coal Ridge, Rifle and Grand Valley at Aspen, 8 a.m.Softball – Palisade at Rifle, 11 a.m.Volleyball – Olathe at Roaring Fork, 1 p.m.
