Bears baseball wins season opener, 6-2

RIFLE – Jason Enewold tossed a five-hitter with seven strikeouts in 51⁄3 innings to led Rifle to a 6-2 nonleague win over Alameda at Cooper Field on Friday.

Josh May had two of the Bears’ (1-0) base hits, scored two runs and had one of Rifle’s two doubles in the contest.

Sean Fazzi, Kip Jessup, Nick Babbler and Travis May each had RBI’s.



Rifle scored three runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead, then added three more in the sixth inning after the visiting Pirates had chopped the Bears lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth.

Owen Madison earned a save in his first pitching appearance when the senior relieved Enewold in the fifth with one out.



The Bears are off until Saturday when they have a scheduled doubleheader with the Elizabeth Cardinals at Cooper Field.
