Bears, Demons basketball teams learn playoff fates
Now that the 4A regular season and league tournament is over and done with, the Rifle Bears boys and girls basketball teams, as well as the Glenwood Springs boys basketball team, have learned their respective fates for the 4A state championships.
Finishing off a year in which the Bears boys team went 19-4 (12-2 4A Western Slope League) to win the regular season title before finishing second in the 4A WSL/SWL tournament in Grand Junction this past weekend, the Bears will enter the state playoffs as a No. 5 seed where they’ll take on the Evergreen Cougars (17-6, 11-4 JeffCo League).
Tip-off between the Cougars and Bears is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
Along with the boys team, the Rifle girls (17-6, 12-2 4A WSL) enter the 4A state playoffs against Evergreen Cougars (20-3, 12-3 JeffCo League). The lady Bears enter as a No. 7 seed, while the Cougars are a No. 2 seed. Tip-off between the Bears and Cougars does not have a set time right now.
Outside of Rifle, the Glenwood Springs boys (12-11, 9-5 4A WSL) enter the state playoffs as the No. 8 seed, drawing the toughest matchup in their bracket: the No. 1 seed Valor Christian Eagles (21-2, 13-2 4A JeffCo League). Tip-off between the two is set for 6:05 p.m. Friday at Valor Christian High School.
