Bears, Demons earn 4A All-Conference honors

Capping off strong individual seasons, Glenwood junior Stephen Romero, Rifle senior Morgan Robinson, senior Ty Leyba and junior Bryer Rew landed on the 4A Western Slope League First-Team on Monday.

Romero, who led the Demons to an 8-11 (6-8) record this past season, hit .375 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 17 runs batted in. On the mound, Romero threw 44 innings for Glenwood, striking out 50 hitters while sporting a 3.66 ERA, going 4-4 on the year.

While Romero had a strong season at the plate and on the mound, Robinson matched him for Rifle, hitting .373 with eight doubles, three triples and two home runs while driving in 24 runs. Robinson also threw 51 1/3 innings, striking out 63 hitters to go with a 2.45 ERA and an 8-3 record.

Leyba hit .291 with two doubles and 12 RBIs, while Rew hit .410 with five doubles, two triples and 18 RBIs.

Earning honorable mention honors for Rifle was junior Blaine Vance (.276, two doubles, 12 RBIs, 3-1, 29 IP, 18 K’s, 2.90 ERA) and junior Gabe Marbas (.244, 13 RBIs, 3-1, 19 IP, 18 K’s, 3.68 ERA). For Glenwood, sophomore Cooper Cornelius (.517, four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 16 RBIs) and sophomore Sabastian “Chano” Gonzales (.375, seven doubles, one triple, 13 RBIs) earned honorable mention honors.

Delta and Palisade led the way on the first team with five members each.
