Staff Report

It appears that the members of the Rifle girls golf team are peaking at the right time.

With one tournament left in the regular season prior to next week’s Class 4A Western Regional tournament in Gypsum, the Bears took second place at Tuesday’s Craig Invitational and eighth overall in Monday’s 32-team Ashley Forey Memorial Tournament in Golden.

Rifle shot a combined 302 at the Craig Tournament, 12 strokes behind team champion Grand Junction’s 290.

Jenny Hughes carded the best individual round among Bear golfers with a 96. Aspen High’s Kristin Walla won the individual tournament by scoring a 88.

Skylar Bell had a 101, followed by Caitlyn Wagner’s 105. Christian Holybee and Erika Graham finished with scores of 107 and 111, respectively.

On Monday in Golden, Wagner and Bell had identical rounds of 98. Wagner and Graham each had a 109. Hughes had a 116.

As a team, Rifle shot a total of 301 for eighth place. Mullen won the team championship with a 244, well ahead of second-place Heritage’s 254. Cherry Creek was third and a combined team consisting of high schools from Greeley finished in fourth place.

The regular season Western Slope tour concludes today with a tournament in Aspen.
