Bears head to 3A state playoffs; Demons left out

The regular season might not have ended the way the Rifle Bears football team was hoping this past Friday against the Palisade Bulldogs in the 3A Western Slope League title game, but fortunately for Rifle a new season starts this Saturday as the Bears earned the No 10 seed in the 3A state playoffs, where they’ll take on the No. 7 Holy Family Tigers on the road in Broomfield.

The Bears finished the season 8-2 overall, which is the same record as Holy Family. However, Holy Family won the 3A Tri-Valley league, while the Bears finished second in the 3A WSL.

Saturday’s game will kick off at 1 p.m. at Holy Family High School.

While the Bears earned a playoff berth, the Glenwood Springs Demons will stay at home for the second straight year despite improving by three games, finishing the regular season with a 5-5 record.

Glenwood capped off the regular season with a dominating 33-6 win over Eagle Valley at Stubler Memorial Field, but it wasn’t enough in the eyes of the CHSAA committee as the Demons had just one loss more than the No. 16 Skyview Wolverines and No. 15 Erie Tigers.

Its a disappointing close to the season after the Demons played some of their best football down the stretch, but with plenty of young talent in the fold, the arrow is pointing up for the Demons under Head Coach Rocky Whitworth.
