Bears in shape to take West Slope softball title

Rifle applied the pressure in the pursuit of the 2006 Western Slope League softball pennant and the race for the first round district playoff berth attached to it got tighter.A 7-5 win by the Bears Wednesday over previously undefeated in league play Palisade at the Kronkright Softball Complex in Grand Junction puts Rifle in position to tie for the regular season title. For that to happen, the Bears must defeat Eagle Valley in today’s regular season finale, scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Deerfield Park Complex in North Rifle. Should the Bears defeat the Devils, first place, according to league rules, will be determined by a coin flip between Rifle and Palisade. No further information on the game was available at press time.
