Bears sweep Moffat County

RIFLE ” Krista Wagstrom scored 13 points and Kristin Neffendorf added 10 points in the Rifle girls’ 47-36 Western Slope League win over Moffat County.

Rifle took over first place and remains undefeated in league play.

The Bears (7-3 overall, 3-0 WSL) took the lead for good in the second quarter by outscoring the visiting Bulldogs 16-9 in the second quarter.

Rifle helped itself by hitting 15-of-26 free throws in the contest against a 6-for-14 mark by Moffat County, which fell to 3-1 in league and 8-3 overall with the loss.

Brandie Tolifer led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Rifle travels to Glenwood Springs on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Demons, who earned a 56-34 victory over Steamboat on Saturday.


Rifle 54, Moffat County 51

The Bears erased a five-point halftime deficit in the third period by outscoring Moffat County 17-10 in the period to go ahead by four at the buzzer, then hang on to post a 54-51 win.

Senior Aaron Jewell scored a team-high 15 points for the Bears, who go to 2-1 in the WSL and 4-6 overall. Jim Owens added 11. Troy Weiss tossed in 8 points.

Bulldog Anthony Loughran finished with a game-leading 20 points.

Rifle takes on Glenwood Springs Friday night at the Demons’ Chavez-Spencer Gymnasium.
