Cardinal gridders, spikers garner postseason kudos

Grand Valley’s Sam McKinley earned Class 1A Western Slope all conference honors as both a wide receiver and punter, and four other Cardinals also garnered postseason kudos.Along with McKinley, who led the team with 20 receptions for 471 yards receiving, defensive back Justin Busch (24 tackles) and offensive lineman Jake Brubacher were also named to the first team.Danny Manzanares and Richard Gallegos both received honorable mention accolades for their big numbers in the fall. Manzanares rushed for more than 1,000 yards, and Gallegos racked up almost 1,180 yards throwing the ball.Four Grand Valley volleyball players also earned league honors.Jamie Vance and Julianne Jones were picked for the Class 2A all-Western Slope League first team, while Nikki Loschke and Merridy Maybury earned honorable mention selections.Jamie Vance and Julianne Jones were picked for the Class 2A all-Western Slope League first team, while Nikki Loschke and Merridy Maybury earned honorable mention selections.
