Cardinals blank Aspen, Rifle falls to Valley, 29-12

Danny Manzanares and the Grand Valley football team started the 2006 season with a bang on Friday night.Under the brand new lights at Aspen’s field, Manzanares rushed for 260 yards on 20 carries, scoring three touchdowns and lifting the Cardinals over the Skiers 28-0. Manzanares scored on runs of 15 and 8 yards, as well as converting a fourth-and-inches situation on the Cardinals’ first drive.

Grand Valley quarterback Richard Gallegos connected with Tyler Jenson for another score in the second quarter, tossing a 26-yard completion. Matt Cain and Jenson led the way on defense, each intercepting passes from Aspen quarterback Harry Maniloff.

Valley scored 28 unanswered points in the last three quarters of its non-league game Friday night, beating the Rifle football team 28-12 in Gilcrest, near Greeley.The Bears scored 12 points in the first quarter, but couldn’t manage to score again. Further information about the game was not available.
