Cards’ playing takes them to championship

In a low-scoring affair, the Grand Valley girls basketball team managed to score more, beating Rangely 36-26 in the Class 2A District 5 semifinals on Friday at Soroco High School.No. 2 Grand Valley will now face No. 2 Meeker in the district championship today at 2:30 p.m. at Soroco.Rangely jumped out to a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Grand Valley bounced back in the second to take a 12-10 lead into halftime.The Cardinals then outscored Rangely 11-6 in the third quarter and 13-10 in the final frame.Megan Johnson topped all scorers with nine points, Patty Angel and Katie Bryan each added six and Megan Braby chipped in another five for the Cardinals.
