Cards thump Rangely, 48-8

Led by the arm of Richard Gallegos and the legs of Danny Manzanares, the Grand Valley football team racked up 528 yards of total offense in a 48-8 rout of Rangely in Class 1A Western Slope Conference action Friday night in Parachute.Gallegos finished with 215 yards passing – 101 of which found receiver Sam McKinley – and three touchdowns, while Manzanares scored a touchdown and had 140 yards on the ground.The Cardinals (2-2 in league, 3-3 overall) got the rout started early with three touchdowns in the first quarter by Manzanares, Justin Busch and Adam Johnson for a 20-0 advantage. In the second quarter, the Cardinal passing game took over with Gallegos hitting Derrek Maxfield and Busch for TD strikes. The Cardinals scored three more times in the fourth quarter before Rangely (1-3, 3-3) got on the board with an 80-yard kickoff return by Curtis Baker.• In Friday’s volleyball game Rangely downed Grand Valley 3-2.
