Career game nets SutherlandBig XII weekly honors

DALLAS – University of Colorado junior Amber Sutherland was named the Big 12 Volleyball Player of the Week for her performances the week of Sept. 11-17 as announced by the conference office on Monday, Sept. 18.Sutherland, a 2004 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School, recorded a career-high 35 kills in the conference opener and five-game upset of No. 17 Missouri. The 5-10 outside hitter recorded a .397 hitting percentage on her way to recording the third highest kills total in a match in school history. She became just the second Buff to hit over 35 kills in a match (Sarah Lodge, 1997, 36 and 40) and the sixth to reach the 30-kill mark. Sutherland added 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season and earned a career-best 36.5 points in the match.Against Texas Tech, she recorded 12 kills and eight digs while hitting .318 as the Buffs won in three games. Sutherland added four block assists and three assists as CU extended its win streak to five. This season, Sutherland averages 5.88 kills, 2.75 digs and hit .376 as CU won its first two conference matches since 2002.
