Carreon, Horning, Parker named to state teams
Capping off impressive seasons on the hardwood, three local high school basketball players were named to the state teams of their respective level this past week.
In 3A, Grand Valley guard John Parker was named to the 3A Second Team All-State squad thanks to a year in which he averaged 22.3 points per game, eight rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per game and three steals per game while leading the Cardinals to a berth in the Great Eight of the 3A state playoffs this past season.
Along with Parker, Glenwood Springs guard Cameron Horning turned in an incredible year as well, earning a berth on the 4A Second Team All-State squad.
Horning averaged an astounding 23 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists and 3.6 steals per game.
Rounding out the state awards for the boys, Rifle senior guard Luis Carreon was given 4A All-State Honorable Mention after leading the Bears to a 19-5 record and a berth in the state playoffs.
During the 2015-16 season, Carreon averaged 8.8 points per game, 4.9 assists per game and 3.6 rebounds per game.
