Carding a score of 87, Rifle High School’s Ashley Chastain has charged forward as the Western Slope’s top girls golfer at the conclusion of Monday’s first round of the two-day, 36-hole, Class 4A state championship golf tournament in Pueblo.Heading into today’s final 18 holes at Elmwood Golf Course, Chastain is tied for 14th place with five other players in a field of 112 golfers.The junior’s round bettered Western regional individual champion Emma Watson of Cedaredge’s day-one total by three strokes. Watson is currently tied for 27th overall with five players, which includes Glenwood Springs senior Emily Hauptli at 90.The Demons’ Lisa Richards is a stroke back of her teammate in a five-way tie for 34th place with a total of 91 after 18 holes.Rifle senior Trisha Wailes is tied for 58th place with Jennifer Ingrum of Denver Mullen. Both finished with scores of 99. Kori Kosht of Rifle is 65th after shooting 105.Elizabeth Kresock of Colorado Academy, who shot a 2-over round of 73 Monday, is the current leader – three strokes up on Mullen’s Maggie Boberg.
