CMC disc course will engage the professionals

Disc-golf players and fans, mark your calendars: The pros are coming to Glenwood this weekend.About 120 professionals are making a stop on the course at Colorado Mountain College in Spring Valley to contend for cash, prizes plus the championship crown of the 2006 Colorado Open.

This marks the third time in as many years the pros have swung into the Roaring Fork valley. Over that period, the event has increased in popularity.Tournament Director T.J. Lawrence originally limited the field to 105 participants. Due to the influx of entries, Lawrence expanded the number of participants to 120.

Along with his duties this weekend, the Silt resident is the disc course pro at CMC and is the defending champ of the men’s professional division.Due to the high numbers, this year’s tournament consists of three 24-hole rounds.



The first two rounds are Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Players with the lowest scores after Day 1 advance to Sunday’s final round, at 9:30 a.m.The Glenwood tour stop is part of the Colorado Disc Sports Association’s golf point series that begins in April and culminates with October’s state championship tournament.Disc golfers across Colorado are scheduled to participate along with players from Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico.
