CMC hosts sixth annual Colorado Mountain Cup

SPRING VALLEY – Eighteen teams, 31 games and some of the best soccer you’ll see on the Western Slope is what Colorado Mountain College is offering local sports fans this weekend.And it all starts tonight with Salt Lake Community College and CMC men’s teams squaring off at 6 p.m. to kick off the sixth annual Colorado Mountain Cup.The host Eagles are one of 10 men’s teams making the trip to Glenwood from throughout the Western states, including in-state squads from Fort Lewis College, Western State College, the University of Northern Colorado and Air Force Academy (its freshman-only prep team).Schools coming from out of state include Utah Valley State, two Weber State University teams, Central Wyoming College and the aforementioned Salt Lake CC.”We’ll have some really good soccer,” CMC coach Steve White said. “There are enough games and teams for people to come to one or two games and see some really good teams.”Though CMC has no women’s team this year, the CMC Mountain Cup features a women’s division nonetheless.Club teams from Colorado State University and the University of Colorado, as well as teams from UNC, Air Force Academy and Western State are among those composing the women’s field.For those interested in catching the host Eagles, they’ll be back on the pitch Saturday at 6 p.m. against Weber State’s B team. On Sunday, CMC takes on UNC at 10 a.m.The semis and title games are also Sunday afternoon, with the men’s semifinal games at 1 p.m. and the final at 3:30 p.m. The women’s division final is slated for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
