Coal Ridge boys slip by Pirates

OLATHE — Hunter Gerber finished with a game-high 15 points to go with a 14-point outing from Greyson Keener, and Coal Ridge High School’s boys basketball team gutted out a 49-39 Class 3A Western Slope League victory over Olathe on Wednesday night.

Michael Solis added 11 points for the Titans (6-7 overall, 5-3 league), who won their fourth straight. Coal Ridge coach Paul Harvey credited his team’s defensive intensity as a primary factor for his team’s victory.

Olathe fell to 0-13 and 0-8 in league play.

GIRLS: OLATHE 48, COAL RIDGE 30

OLATHE — Coal Ridge (5-8, 5-3) got a game-high 16 points from Kaitlin Detlefsen against Olathe (12-1, 8-0), but the Pirates limited the Titans to just 9-of-51 shooting from the field in handing the Titans a league loss on the road.

Kyrie’ Foreman contributed six points for Coal Ridge, which trailed 27-15 at halftime. Coal Ridge coach Steve Young said that of the 48 points that the Pirates scored, 24 were scored off fast breaks.

Coal Ridge plays at Grand Valley on Friday.
