PEACH VALLEY – Her younger children showing interest in basketball made the decision easier for Jacky Gaddis to resign as Coal Ridge High School’s girls varsity coach. “I want to watch my kids play,” she said.
In her lone season at the helm of the fledging Titans, Gaddis directed Coal Ridge’s first team of freshmen and sophomores to a 10-10 overall record and 4-4 mark against Class 2A Western Slope League opponents. After a slow start, due to inexperience at the high school level, Coal Ridge won five of its last seven regular-season games that included victories over Class 2A state playoff qualifier Meeker and Class 4A Palisade’s junior varsity team.
The Titans concluded the year with a 65-49 post-season playoff loss to Plateau Valley in the first round of the 2A, District 5 tournament.Prior to accepting the position at Coal Ridge, Gaddis was the girls head coach at Roaring Fork High School for three seasons, compiling a 54-17 win-loss record.
Additionally, The Rams advanced their way out of the district tournament to the Class 3A regional playoffs all three years Gaddis coached in Carbondale.Gaddis’ 2002-03 team had the best success in her tenure. In that season, the Rams led by 3A Ms. Basketball Player of the Year Tarn Udall, finished with 22-4 overall and advanced their way to the state “Great Eight” before losing to Platte Valley.
