Coal Ridge soccer earns No. 5 seed, hosts Middle Park Thursday

The Coal Ridge High School boys soccer team enters the 16-team Class 3A state tournament as the No. 5 seed this week.

Pairings announced Tuesday by the Colorado High School Activities Association matches the Titans against the 12th-seeded Middle Park Panthers.

Game time will be 4 p.m. Thursday at the Coal Ridge soccer field.

Coal Ridge won the 3A Western Slope League with a perfect 6-0 run and went 9-0 overall in the revamped spring season.

The abbreviated season concludes with a smaller postseason field than usual, as 32 teams normally advance to the playoffs.

Colorado Academy enters as the top seed, followed by Liberty Common, Lamar, KIPP Denver Collegiate and Coal Ridge.

The winner of Thursday’s game will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday versus either KIPP Denver or No. 12 Alamosa. The higher seed will host.
