Coal Ridge tops Raptors 8-0 at Kent Denver
ENGLEWOOD — Coal Ridge High School’s girls soccer team on Friday got right back to dictating the tempo of the game against its opponents, and it came at the expense of Denver School of Science and Technology — Green Valley Ranch.
Three different players had two goals each for Coal Ridge, which recovered from Tuesday’s lopsided loss against Battle Mountain with a convincing 8-0 victory against the Raptors in a tournament at Kent Denver High School.
“That was a good thing for us on Tuesday,” Coal Ridge coach Micah Herron said. “We got back to being us today.”
Sam Dunn, Mariela Martinez and Jenny Call each notched a pair of goals for the Titans, who took a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Molly Mello added a goal in the 47th minute, Call made it 7-0 with her goal in the 69th minute and, one minute later, Alondra Murrillo capped the scoring with Coal Ridge’s final goal of the game.
Coal Ridge was beaten by Battle Mountain, 6-0, in its season opener on Tuesday.
The victory sent Coal Ridge into a matchup against Kent Denver, which defeated Denver Christian in the tournament’s other game. Game time is at 10 a.m. today.
