Cougars close out perfect season

The Cougars finished out their season perfectly. And for 12 of the players, the Glenwood Springs Middle School eighth-grade football team’s win Tuesday evening at Roaring Fork High School wrapped up a perfect middle school football run.Dru Avery’s 1-yard run was enough for the Glenwood Springs defense as the Demons downed Carbondale 6-0 to finish the season undefeated. Many of the same players were also on last year’s unbeaten seventh-grade squad.

“It felt great. Everyone was really psyched and pumped up,” Glenwood free safety Patrick Boas said of the perfect middle school record. “It was a lot of fun.”Carbondale didn’t make it easy on the Cougars, as neither offense could gain much traction against the opposing defense.

According to Boas, Keenan Hartert led the defense in the shutout performance, making a number of key plays from the linebacker position.• The seventh-grade Glenwood squad also notched a shutout, beating Carbondale 20-0. • The seventh-grade Glenwood squad also notched a shutout, beating Carbondale 20-0.
