CRMS skier wins GS race at Copper
COPPER MOUNTAIN – Colorado Rocky Mountain School skier Fred Norquist started the alpine ski season off with a bang on Friday, outpacing a field of 128 to take the boys individual division in a season-opening giant slalom race at Copper Mountain.The senior posted a winning time of 1 minute, 8.56 seconds, and earned a maximum 60 points in the CHSAA season series opener. Norquist logged the fastest time in each of his two runs, and won by a full second.As a team, CRMS finished eighth overall in the boys standings, and 10th overall in the girls standings. Steamboat Springs won the overall boys team title, while Battle Mountain won the girls division. There were more than 300 skiers participating in Friday’s event.Sydney Schachter placed highest for the CRMS girls, finishing 23rd.
