CRMS soccer team wins third, beating Rangely

The Colorado Rocky Mountain School girls soccer team is off to its best start in recent history. The Oysters, who didn’t win a game last season, kept their perfect record intact with a 2-0 victory over Rangely in a 3A Western Slope League contest Tuesday.”I’ve always had the philosophy that winning breeds winning,” CRMS coach Amanda Leahy said. “I’m hoping the kids have a taste of something that’s going to carry them forward.”Veronica Glass and Ruby Kimberly each scored as CRMS improved to 3-0 on the season. Megan Olenick earned the shutout in goal for the Oysters. With Olenick in goal Hanna Farrar, the keeper before Olenick, is able to get out in the field and add to the offensive punch, according to Leahy.”She’s new in goal for us, and she’s been great,” Leahy said of Olenick. The victory was the second of the season against Rangely (0-5), and CRMS also beat Aspen. The victory keeps the Oysters in a first-place tie with Basalt in the WSL.CRMS takes on cross-town rival Roaring Fork, a team that CRMS hasn’t defeated since Leahy took over three years ago, at 4 p.m. today at Roaring Fork High School.”Roaring Fork has had that ability to always squeak it out in the end,” Leahy said of the rivalry. “Even though we’re going in there with three wins, we’re going to have to see if we can break that spell.”
