CRVLL and TRLL take tough losses in Little League tourney

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Colorado River Valley Little’s 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars suffered their first loss of the District 1 tournament at Orchard Mesa Little League on Tuesday, losing to Monument 17-2.

The team, which draws players from Rifle, New Castle, Silt, Parachute and Meeker, is still alive in the double-elimination tournament and will play either Montrose or Fruita at 7 p.m. tonight.

In other District 1 action, Three Rivers Little League’s stars saw their tourney run come to an end with an 11-10 loss to Palisade on Wednesday.

“It was dramatic,” said manager Bill Barham. “The kids were sad, the parents were sad.”

TRLL, which consists of players from Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Basalt and Aspen, were up 10-6 late before Palisade rallied to steal the win.

“It was a great season,” Barham said. “They just went and outhit us, got one better than we did. It was a good team effort all the way around.”

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Three Rivers Little League’s 11-year-old All-Stars saw their season come to an end with an 11-1 loss to Montrose at District 1 tourney host Grand Mesa Little League on Wednesday.

“It’s the end of a good season,” said manager Paul Burbidge. “We’ve still got Triple Crown. We’ll keep that going.”

Colorado River Valley Little’s 11-year-olds had a late game on Wednesday. That score was not available at press time.
