Delta takes advantage of struggling Bears defense

The Rifle baseball team got down too much too early and fell 11-7 to Delta on Thursday.Delta (5-5 Western Slope League, 5-9 overall) jumped out to a quick lead, putting up 10 runs in the first three innings and the Bears (4-3 WSL, 5-7 overall) just couldn’t catch up. Eli Snead took the loss for Rifle, giving up six hits and eight runs in 213 innings. However, only three of the runs were earned as the Bears committed eight errors. Asa Fix pitched 123 innings, allowing four hits and three runs – none of which were earned. Zach Whitmore threw two shutout innings at the end of the game for Rifle.Snead lead the Bears at the plate, smacking four hits including a triple and a double, scored one run and drove in another. Matt Petree knocked in two runs and scored one, while Andrew Schmidt crossed the plate twice and had an RBI.
