Demon swimmers finish season at state meet

FORT COLLINS ” Bryce McDermott notched Glenwood Springs’ top opening-day finish as the Demon swimmers took to the pool at Edora Pool Ice Center in Fort Collins on Thursday for preliminary action of the Class 4A boys state swim meet.

McDermott touched in at 2:00.11 in the 200-yard freestyle to nab 19th place and finished 22nd in the 500 with a time of 5:30.23.

Raphael Joly took 25th in the 100 backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:01.98.

The Demons’ 400 free relay team, consisting of McDermott, Joly, Alex Moore and Jamie Giezentanner, placed 25th overall (3:50.32).

Class 4A swimmers return to the pool for swim and diving finals action at 5 p.m. today. The top eight from preliminaries make the finals heat on Day 2, while the second eight make the consolation finals heat.

McDermott was the lone Demon making a repeat state appearance.

Glenwood, which ended the regular season with just five swimmers on the roster, sent four of those to the state meet.
