Demon swimmers sink Moffat County
CRAIG – The Glenwood Springs high school boys swim team won its first dual meet of the season here Saturday, edging the host Bulldogs 54-46.
Bobby Gucwa finished first in two individual events and two team relays to lead the Demons.
Gucwa’s first-place times in the 200 meter freestyle and the 100 meter butterfly were within qualifying times for the Class 4A state championship meet.
Gucwa’s time of 2 minutes, 8.58 seconds beat teammate Steve Jay in the freestyle. Earlier, Jay won the 100 freestyle in 1:00.71 by a body length over his brother Jon, who posted a 1:01.05 mark for second place.
In the 200 free relay, Gucwa teaming with his brother Damian and the Jays bested Moffat in a state qualifying time of 1:50.00.
Bobby Gucwa concluded the meet by helping the Demon 400 meter freestyle team to a 4:09.78 first-place finish.
Damian Gucwa also recorded a win in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:14.14.
Chris Rey, a member of the Demons winning 400 free relay team, took first place in the individual 500 meter freestyle in 6:14.70 and also qualified for state in the 200 meter Medley Relay.
