Demon swimmers top Aspen, 124-57

Taking first in nine out of 12 events, the Glenwood Springs girls swimming team sailed to a 124-57 win over Aspen Friday night.”We were able to take a lot of 1-2 (first and second-place finishes) in a row, and that really racks points up quickly,” Glenwood head coach Michelle Brune said. “My girls are pretty fast this year.” The swimmers went 1-2 in six events, but the Demon divers highlighted the night, placing first through fourth in a field of six. Alle Wine finished on top with a score of 167.25, Jessica Betts followed in second with 158.70, Shannell Squires took third with 121.55, and Gever Kelly rounded out the diving Demons, finishing fourth by scoring 119.45.”They were stellar,” Brune said. “It is pretty fabulous to get all but one point (in the event).”Jennifer Betts recorded two first-place finishes, winning the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 58.53 and winning the 200-meter individual medley in 2:26.81.Three other Demons swam to victories, with Emily McDonald taking first in the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 25.40, Ali Schaiberger winning the 500-meter freestyle in 6:07.30 and Claire Noone taking first in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:15.03.Glenwood also won the 200-meter freestyle relay and took the top-three spots in the 400-meter freestyle relay.The Demons will hit the water again on Jan. 14 against Fruita.
