Demons’ Carlson nets sportsmanship award

GRAND JUNCTION – Glenwood Springs High School senior Cassie Carlson was awarded the girls’ sportsmanship award among all Western Slope area teams by the Western Slope Basketball Officials Association.

Carlson, a three-year varsity performer for the Demons was awarded with a plaque during last weekend’s final league game against Moffat County at Glenwood’s Chavez-Spencer gymnasium.

“I was really happy to receive the award,” Carlson said.

She said the key to working with referees is looking at them as part of a team.

“The refs are great to work with. They come out easy and light-hearted and want to work with you,” she said. “The thing you have to remember is they are doing the best they can.”
