Demons golfers claim fifth at Montrose Invite

The Demons continued to improve as the prep boys golf tour hits the midway point of the 2005 season.Competing at the two-day, 36-hole Montrose Invitational at the Links at Cobble Creek and the Black Canyon Golf Course Monday and Tuesday, Glenwood took fifth place with a combined score of 459 in the 12-team tournament.Senior Matt McAdow, after carding five birdies and an eagle for a 1-under par 69 Tuesday, tied with Devon Schriner of Durango for sixth place with identical scores of 147. Michael Flohr finished 17th with a combined score of 158, followed by teammate Tory Garling at 159. Kevin Warkenton, after scoring a high school best round of 78 Tuesday also finished among the top 20 individually.Montrose’s Eric Lundberg was the tournament’s individual medalist. His final total of 141, bested runners-up Paul Berry from Steamboat and Rangely’s Kris Huitt by two strokes.Durango, a Class 5A school, won the team championship with a two-day total of 440. Host Montrose was second at 447. Fruita Monument and Steamboat Springs were third and fourth, respectively.Rifle, the other area school involved in both days of play, was sixth in the team standings at 461. No other information on the Bears was available.Glenwood, Rifle, Coal Ridge, Roaring Fork and Grand Valley are slated to play in Thursday’s Delta Invite before the Labor Day break.
