Demons host Steamboat in soccer test

Believe it or not.

But it is true. Painfully true for the Battle Mountain Huskies.

In a high school sporting saga of epic proportions, Battle Mountain lost a baseball doubleheader to Moffat County on Thursday by a combined score of 50-1.

Indeed, 50-1.

In spite of playing on their home field, the Huskies dropped the first game 35-1.

They held Moffat County 15 runs in the second game in a 15-0 shutout loss.

Fresh from their avalanche of runs, Moffat County’s Bulldogs will host Glenwood Springs on Saturday in a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m.

The baseball slate, including a key doubleheader in the 3A Western Slope League, also features Eagle Valley at Roaring Fork on Saturday.

In a key 4A Western Slope League soccer match on Friday, the Glenwood Demons will host the Steamboat Sailors at 6 p.m. at Stubler Memorial Field.

A big crowd is anticipated for the clash of Sailors and Demons, traditionally one of the top local prep soccer matches of the season.

In other area prep soccer, Rifle scored a key 1-0 win over Battle Mountain on Thursday afternoon.

Ashley Gavito’s goal at 13:23 of the first half was the lone goal of the match, a 4A Western Slope League contest.

The Bears rebounded from a 4-1 loss at Palisade on Tuesday of this week.

Glenwood Springs will host the Battle Mountain soccer team on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stubler Memorial Field.
