GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Now thick in the mix of 3A Western Slope League play, Glenwood Springs welcomes Montezuma-Cortez to town tonight.

The 2-1 Panthers make the trip on the heels of last week’s 60-20 thrashing at the hands of Steamboat Springs, ranked fourth in Class 3A by RockyPreps.

The 4-0 Demons, on the other hand, rolled right along with a 42-14 thumping of Delta, putting up all those points by halftime.

Michael Hudson rushed for 159 yards and three touchdowns and Dakota Stonehouse finished 5-for-8 with 90 yards and two scores in just a half’s worth of work in Delta.

No. 3 Glenwood will be seeking its 15th straight regular-season win.

RIFLE, Colorado ” After a stinging 40-13 loss to Brush, a game in which Rifle trailed just 14-13 at halftime, the Bears are looking to rebound with a 3A Western Slope League win against Delta tonight.

Rifle tangled through a hard-fought first half against Class 2A’s No. 9 team before turning the ball over three times in the second half and allowing 26 unanswered points.

The Panthers stumbled to a 42-14 loss against visiting Glenwood last week.

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado” Coal Ridge continued its surprising 2008 run with a 41-14 win at Rangely last week.

In its homecoming game tonight, Coal Ridge hopes to surprise another team in Cedaredge in the teams’ 2A WSL opener. A win would push the Titans to 4-0.

Against Rangely, Bradey Gasaway had 125 yards and three TDs on the ground and Josh Alsop rushed for 90 yards and a score.

The Bruins struggled to start the season with losses to Paonia and Hotchkiss before rattling off a 33-15 win over Delta’s sub-varsity team last week.

OLATHE, Colorado ” After breaking out for its first win ” a 34-8 drubbing of Meeker ” of the season last Friday, Roaring Fork looks to keep the momentum going at 3-0 Olathe in both schools’ 2A WSL opener.

Ryan Weimer threw for 98 yards and a TD on 10-of-12 passing, and he also ran for two scores in the Rams’ convincing win.

In its three victories on the young season, Olathe has outscored opponents 85-9.

PARACHUTE, Colorado ” Grand Valley plays its first league game as a 2A football school tonight after a 28-7 setback against 1A Hayden in a pre-league showdown last week.

The Cardinals mustered little offensively against the Tigers last week, getting 77 yards rushing and the team’s only TD from William Waugh.

A tough pre-league schedule hasn’t treated the reigning 2A WSL champion Cowboys all that well. They opened the season with losses to Delta, Buena Vista and last week’s 38-7 loss at Centauri.
