Demons lose baseball playoff at Montrose

Montrose ended the baseball season for the Glenwood Demons Tuesday afternoon.

The Indians, playing at home, struck quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 8-1 win in the quarterfinals of the 4A District Tournament.

Montrose added two more runs in the bottom of the third, in support of the pitching of J.T. Shelton. The Indians also picked up single runs inthe fourth and the sixth.

Glenwood Springs broke up the shutout in the fifth when Josh Russo’s towering triple to center scored Tiernan Conway, who had doubled earlier in the inning.

Russo pitched five-plus innings for the Demons, picking up seven strikeouts before he was relieved by Conway.

Montrose improved to 11-9 with the elimination win on a windy Tuesday afternoon.

The win also was the second of the season for the Indians over Glenwood Springs. The Demons lost 9-5 to Montrose early in the season.

The victory also created a three-game win streak for the Indians, who regularly play in the 4A-5A Southwestern League.

Glenwood Springs finished the season 7-12 overall. The Demons dropped their final five games of the season, including Tuesday’s road loss at Montrose.
