Demons take sixth at Denver meet
AURORA – No doubt about it, the Glenwood Springs girls swim team is worthy of its state ranking.
At the Jefferson County Invitational against some of the top teams in Colorado, the No. 5 in Class 4A, Demons finished sixth in the 22-team meet.
Glenwood scored 149 team points, besting Golden for seventh place by one point.
Arvada West of Denver was the team champions with 268 points. Grand Junction, the Demons next opponent on Friday, was second with 176 points.
Rachel Rey earned Glenwood’s highest individual event mark of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Demon sophomore posted a second-place time of 56.07 seconds to Nikki Plankard of Thornton’s 55.94.
Rey also took fourth place in the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 1.95 seconds.
Michelle McReynolds posted a fifth-place mark of 5:54.67 in the 500-yard freestyle.
In the diving competition Celeste Cashel finished with a team-high 338.95 points in 11 dives for fourth place. Amy Ackerman was fifth with 328.65 points. Kelly Hauskins came in seventh place with 316.85 points.
In the free relays, Glenwood clocked a 4:00.27 time in the 400, good enough for sixth place. In the 200, the Demons posted a ninth-place mark of 1:50.80.
