The victory put Dolores (18-4) in the state championship round of eight in Pueblo, while the Cardinals finished the season at 11-12.The Bears are “all seniors and they are probably more athletic than any team in our league,” Grand Valley coach Scott Kiburis said. ” (Larsen) drove to the basket and pretty much had about 10 layups at least.”Dolores jumped on Grand Valley quickly and took advantage of the absence of the Cardinals’ leading scorer, Sam McKinley, by keeping a close eye on Dylan Culver.”They had Culver covered pretty well, and he couldn’t get his shot off without two people in his face,” Kiburis said. “We got the ball inside to some of our big guys, but just didn’t finish as much as we would have liked to.”Along with Larsen in double figures, Andy Swope tallied 15 points, and Kelby Dimmick had 12.Taylor Prince, the Cardinals’ only senior starter, led Grand Valley with 10 points. Culver posted nine.”Hopefully Sam comes back healthy, and he should, and we’ll just build on this,” Kiburis said.
