Durango’s fast start does in Glenwood in boys lacrosse

Staff Report

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Durango High School’s boys lacrosse team got off to a quick start against the Glenwood Springs Demons and eventually held on in the second half for an 11-6 Mountain League victory at Stubler Memorial Field on Friday afternoon.

The victory the Durango, also nicknamed the Demons, to 5-2 overall with five consecutive victories. Glenwood, which fell to 3-2 overall, fell behind 6-0 at halftime and wasn’t able to recover.

“They really brought it,” Glenwood coach Rick Stevens said of Durango. “We got off to a really slow start, and that wound up being the difference. We learned a good lesson today for us not to become complacent.

“Skill-wise, we really matched up with them well,” the coach continued. “They just outhustled us.”

The Glenwood Demons will try to recover when they continue Mountain League play on April 8 at Vail Mountain before going to a tournament April 10 and 11 at Englewood High School.
