Duroux, Bowman make all-league team

Juniors Darren Duroux and Jake Bowman flashed enough leather to earn spots as infielders on the Class 3A baseball Western Slope all-league first team.

And they weren’t too shabby with the stick in their hands, either.

Roaring Fork’s Bowman boasted a .596 batting average and drove in a team-high 23 runs for the Rams, who finished the season with a mark of 9-10. Bowman also tallied 12 extra-base hits with nine doubles and three triples.

Duroux was a bright spot during a rough season for Basalt. The Longhorns finished at 2-18, with player eligibility issues forcing the team to forfeit a few league contests.

When the team got on the field, however, Duroux did his part. The slugger belted three homers and knocked in 10 runs. He also showed the ability to hit for average, finishing out at .575.

Roaring Fork also had one player earn honorable mention accolades in utility player Parker Nieslanik. Nieslanik had a .344 average with 14 RBIs.

League-champion Olathe led the league with six first-team selections ” including two all-state nominations in junior Jake Perkins and senior Shane Armandariz. Hotchkiss had five players selected to the first team, with Brandon Bell getting the all-state nomination. Other all-state selections include Cedaredge’s Brandon Baker and Gunnison’s Taylor Hefftner.
