Eighth-grade girls tourney games today

The march to the championship of the PEG League Tournament will continue tonight for eighth-grade girls basketball teams.

The semifinals of the annual tournament are scheduled tonight at Carbondale Middle School.

In the first game, Glenwood Springs Middle School will take on Basalt at 4:30 p.m.



In the nightcap, league-champion Carbondale will take on Aspen at 6 p.m., also at CMS.

Carbondale, with a perfect 6-0 record, received a bye for the first-round of the PEG tourney.



The Wolverines won the regular-season title.

Aspen advanced to play Carbondale with a 24-20 win Tuesday over Rifle in a match of the No. 4 and 5 teams from the league. Aspen is now 4-3.

In other first-round games Tuesday, Glenwood Springs beat Riverside 21-5 and Basalt stopped St. John’s 29-22.

Basalt, the No. 2 team from the regular season, is now 6-1. The Glenwood Cougars are 4-3 with Tuesday’s win.

The championship game is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carbondale Middle School.

The third-place game will be played at 9 a.m. Saturday, also at CMS.
