Enewold picked for all-state baseball game

Staff Report

Jason Enewold is taking his pitching talents to Denver.

The Rifle High School ace has been chosen by a committee of media, high school coaches and Colorado Rockies personnel to compete in the annual Rockies High School All-Star Game on Sunday, June 8, at Coors Field.

The All-Star prep game, which features the top 44 senior high school baseball players in Colorado, follows that afternoon’s Rockies-Kansas City Royals major league contest.

Enewold, who recently repeated as a Class 4A Western Slope League first team selection, compiled a 7-3 win-loss record during the 2003 baseball season and was among the 4A state leaders in strikeouts.

Heading the list of Enewold’s accomplishments this year was a 20-strikeout in nine innings performance in Craig against league rival Moffat County.

Enewold is one of five Western Slope baseball players named to play.

The rest of the list includes outfielder/pitcher Jerod Estey, the 2003, 4A WSL Player of the Year from Moffat County; infielder Joe Brooks from 2A state champ Paonia, Pitcher Ricky Sparks from 3A Hotchkiss and Pitcher Matt Mallory from 5A Grand Junction Central.

The entire list of selectees includes six catchers, 14 infielders and pitchers and 10 outfielders.

The prep game will begin 30 minutes after the Rockies game and is open to the public.
