Familiar faces top leader board at Glenwood Open

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Through the first of two rounds at the Glenwood Open, Doug Jones and A.J. Joiner stood atop the leader board at the Glenwood Springs Golf Club-hosted amateur tournament.

Jones is a multi-time Open champion, while Joiner is the tourney’s defending champion. Both shot an even-par 70 over 18 holes of play ” two turns on the nine-hole course ” in Saturday play.

The two, both playing in the championship flight at the 36-hole tournament, tee off late this afternoon. The champ flight’s tee times fall between 2:10 and 2:50 p.m.

Higher flights begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m. this morning.

Behind Jones and Joiner in third place is Lamar Carlile, who carded a 72 on Saturday.

According to GSGC head pro Greg Gortsema, some 112 golfers are swinging at this weekend’s Open, an annual tradition that’s been held for more than 30 years.
