Fazzi notches nine RBIs in rout of Battle Mtn.

In a game chock-full of standout offensive performances, Shane Fazzi still managed to set himself apart.

The Rifle cleanup hitter went 5-for-6 from the plate, with three homers and nine RBIs, to lead Rifle to a 26-3 five-inning blowout over Battle Mountain in the Bears’ final league game of the season.

“I think that’s the most ever in one game since I’ve been here,” said Rifle coach Troy Phillips, in his ninth year, of the RBI total. “I can’t recall anybody coming close to that.”

The Bears had six home runs in the game, with three coming back-to-back-to-back. Fazzi started the string. He was followed by Brandon Leuallen, and Kip Jessup finished off the run with one of his two dingers in the game.

The Bears had 24 hits in all. Eli Snead had four hits and four RBIs and Leuallen also had four hits, finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Adam Krick pitched two innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory.

The Bears improve to 10-2 in the Western Slope League (13-4 overall) and will enter next week’s postseason as the No. 2 seed out of the league. Delta won the league crown with a perfect 12-0 record.
